Sustainability: Linfield College

Located in the rich and fertile Pacific Northwest, Linfield College has a wide array of locally grown and sustainably ingredients used in our program. Our management team, led by District Manager Lew del Fierro and General Manager Jason Briles, has made providing sustainable and local products a significant priority. They have worked closely with the Food Alliance, SYSCO and local produce food distributors to find foods that qualify for our sustainable dining services program at Linfield College.

We are proud to offer the following sustainable products every day in our resident and retail dining services:

  • Fruits and Vegetables-Certified, sustainable and local fruit and vegetables as well as fresh, whole organic fruit daily.
  • Milk and Dairy products-Local milk and dairy products, including nonrBST milk.
  • Eggs-Fresh egg purchases from local Oregon and Washington growers.
  • Flour-All flour purchased and bakery products produced are utilizing Shepherd's Grain, a pesticide-free and sustainably grown whole-wheat flour.
  • Beef-featuring Country Natural Beef, a local beef growers co-op providing hormone-free beef grown with sustainable practices.
  • Coffee-Portland Roasting, locally owned and operated. This roaster negotiates purchasing directly with the farmers' co-op through Fair Trade Certified practices.
  • Bakery-Champion Distributing is baking our specialty items as well as our sliced breads, using 100% Food Alliance-certified flour from Shepherd's Grain.
  • Dried Beans-Central Bean Company, a local and sustainable producer, provides all our dried beans used in our delicious soup and entrée recipes.
  • Canned Fruit-We purchase sustainably grown pears canned by Truitt Brothers Cannery.
